What To Do When You’re In A Travel “Slump”?

As you may have noticed, it’s been about two years since I’ve posted a blog here. Life has been a little crazy, and it hasn’t been because I’ve been traveling the world or anything. Instead, I have returned to college to obtain my bachelor’s degree and it–as well as my full-time job and mommy duties–has taken up quite a bit of my time.

Needless to say, this has also contributed to my travel “slump.”

And to be honest, this busyness of life has actually left me with no desire to travel. I had (and still have) goals and I have been hungry to reach them…

With that being said, as I inch toward graduation, I can feel the travel bug creeping back into my life.

But what if you’re in a travel slump and still have the travel bug?

Is your travel slump caused by an illness, responsibilities, or a lack of funds? All of these reasons can be frustrating, and a lot of times, completely out of your control.

What can you do?

I’ve got an idea!

Research some places you are wanting to visit and bring it to you!

What do I mean by this?

Have a party, or just a very small get together in a theme of a place you’d like to visit but just can’t right now. For example, maybe you’ve always wanted to see Italy. Research some amazing recipes to make, find simple and cheap decor that will bring Italy to your family room or back yard, and plan a getaway at home!

I know it’s not the perfect, but it may help push the travel blues away for a time.

Another thing you can do is virtual tours. Technology has really made traveling and seeing new places much easier even if you don’t get to physically go somewhere. There is a plethora of videos on YouTube and other streaming services that offer virtual tours at little to no cost to you!

And in the meantime, work on whatever it is that is holding you back from traveling. Is it a lack of funds? Starting trying to save or find ways to make a little extra money, even if it takes you a couple of years. Has an illness got you down? Focus on getting better. Talk to your doctor about the best approach. Has an overload of responsibilities taken over your life? Work through them as best as you can and whatever responsibilities can be given to someone else, don’t feel guilty about letting them take it.

I know some of that is easier said than done, and there will be times you just can’t travel for a good while. As much as it stinks, it is a part of life. Take heart and remember that life is an adventure, whether you’re at home or off in faraway lands!
